Indications:
D-CAP 40000 Capsule is used to manage and prevent vitamin D3 deficiency. It is indicated for:
- Vitamin D3 Deficiency: Effective in treating and preventing low levels of vitamin D3, including supplementation for certain osteoporosis treatments.
- Osteoporosis Management: Supports therapy for various forms of osteoporosis, including postmenopausal, senile, juvenile, and drug-induced osteoporosis.
- Additional Benefits: Enhances calcium and phosphorus absorption, aids in optimal bone health, supports insulin regulation in type 2 diabetes, improves lung function, reduces the risk of breast and colorectal cancers, and may aid in managing bacterial infections.
Pharmacology:
D-CAP 40000 contains Colecalciferol (Vitamin D3), which is essential for the efficient absorption and utilization of calcium and phosphorus. It plays a vital role in bone growth and maintenance, helping to ensure proper bone density. Vitamin D3 also contributes to better insulin regulation in type 2 diabetes, enhances immune function, and has potential benefits in reducing the risk of certain cancers.

For Capsules:
- Adults:
- Treatment of Vitamin D3 Deficiency: 40,000 IU once weekly for 7 weeks. Maintenance dose is 1,400-2,000 IU daily. Reassess 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels 3-4 months after starting maintenance.
- Prevention of Vitamin D3 Deficiency: 20,000 IU every 4 weeks. Adjustments may be needed based on individual circumstances.
- Osteoporosis Treatment: 20,000 IU once a month.
- Children (12-18 years):
- Treatment of Vitamin D3 Deficiency: 20,000 IU every 2 weeks for 6 weeks.
- Prevention of Vitamin D3 Deficiency: 20,000 IU every 6 weeks.

For Film-Coated Tablets:
- Adults and Children: 1,000 IU (1-2 tablets) daily, or as directed by a physician. Take with food or within 1 hour after a meal.

- Adults and Children: 1,000 IU to 2,000 IU daily, or as directed by a physician. Chew thoroughly before swallowing and take with food or within 1 hour after a meal.

- Prevention:
- Infants (on Vitamin D-enriched milk): 0.5 ml (100,000 IU) every 6 months.
- Infants/Young Children (not on vitamin D milk): 1 ml (200,000 IU) every 6 months.
- Adolescents: 1 ml (200,000 IU) every 6 months during winter.
- Pregnancy: 0.5 ml (100,000 IU) from the 6th or 7th month of pregnancy.
- Elderly: 0.5 ml (100,000 IU) every 3 months. Adjustments may be required for specific conditions or concurrent treatments.
- Vitamin D Deficiency:
- Adults: 1 ml (200,000 IU) every 1 to 6 months, or as directed by a physician.
- Prevention:
Interactions:
- Affected by: Phenytoin, barbiturates, glucocorticoids, certain laxatives (e.g., liquid paraffin), actinomycin, and imidazole antifungal agents.
Contraindications:
- Avoid Use In: Individuals with a known hypersensitivity to vitamin D3.
Side Effects:
- Common Adverse Effects: Hypercalcemia, hypercalciuria, skin rash, itching, urticaria, nausea, and abdominal discomfort.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
- Pregnancy: Generally safe in doses up to 4,000 IU. The standard recommendation is 400 IU daily; however, higher doses may be necessary for those with deficiency. Consult a healthcare provider for personalized advice.
- Lactation: Vitamin D3 and its metabolites are present in breast milk. Overdose in breastfed infants is not commonly reported, but any additional vitamin D3 for the infant should be considered in light of the mother's intake.
